Deconstruction Isn't That Complicated
A short rant on deconversion stories and why they aren't all that unique or complicated.
When deconstruction and deconversion stories started gaining traction, I said then that ultimately the reason people leave the faith is because they love their sin more than they love God. There are several different pathways that can take someone down the road of deconstruction - trauma, grief, divorce, abuse, betrayal - the list could go on, but ultimately everyone has a point in their lives where they have to make a choice - Christ or sin. Some might accuse me of oversimplifying it, but it really is that simple. People believe what they want to believe, no matter how much you plead with them, present rational evidence and arguments to them, or even simply encourage them to think about what they’re saying or doing. In the end, people will decide whether Christ is lord or whether their own sinful desires are.
